Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Complies with corporation, state, and federal regulations
Supports FMCNA mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), and CQI activities
Knowledge of hemodialysis procedures, including setup and operation of machines, vascular access evaluation, cannulation, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), dialysis initiation/discontinuation, vital signs monitoring, intradialytic interventions, Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), Ultrafiltration (UF) goal calculation, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling, Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160 alarms, and machine safety checks
Ability to perform accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Effective communication skills for customer service, relationship building, and reporting to nurse supervisor
Initiative in responding to and resolving customer service issues timely

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight, report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform vascular access cannulation, report difficulties/unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems per physician order or direction
Monitor patient response to dialysis, report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, perform discontinuation functions, and document
Discontinue dialysis per established procedures
Evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., NVL 160)
Record accurate/timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Document patient treatment information completely (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks per facility policy
Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
Actively participate in process improvement activities for patient satisfaction and QEP goals
