Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
  • Knowledge of patient education topics: Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access
  • Ability to evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skilled in setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming: Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling
  • Ability to ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160)
  • Proficient in accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to perform vital signs, weights, pre/post dialysis evaluations, hemostasis, and dressings

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards
  • Provide outstanding customer service to external and internal customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships via timely communication
  • Respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
  • Perform vascular access evaluation and cannulation pre-treatment; report issues
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems per physician orders
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis and report unusual findings
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform treatment discontinuation
  • Evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings; evaluate prior to discharge
  • Record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Program dialysis machines for UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling
  • Record vital signs and treatment parameters accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Document patient treatment information completely
  • Report significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks per facility policy
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
