Function as part of the hemodialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Comply with regulations set by the corporation, state, and federal agencies
Complete FMCNA policies, procedures, and training

Responsibilities

Drive the FMS culture through values and customer service standards
Provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication
Take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Support the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities related to patient satisfaction
Actively participate in process improvement activities to achieve QEP goals
Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings
Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders, including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD)
Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide interventions as prescribed or directed
Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform functions for treatment discontinuation; document
Discontinue dialysis treatment per established procedures; evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP) prior to venous access termination
Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter patients' dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed
Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160
Record accurate and timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Accurately document patient treatment information, including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
Report significant information or changes in patient condition directly to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct monitoring
