Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
  • Knowledge of dialysis therapy, including Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs, weight measurements
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skilled in setup, operation, and programming of hemodialysis machines (e.g., blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD, Ultrafiltration UF goal, treatment time, Sodium Na modeling, UF modeling, safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
  • Ability to monitor patients, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as prescribed
  • Proficient in documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external/internal customers
  • Develop/maintain effective relationships via communication; respond/resolve/follow up on customer service issues
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
  • Perform vascular access cannulation; report difficulties/unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders
  • Monitor patient response to therapy, evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed/directed
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform discontinuation procedures and document
  • Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP); obtain hemostasis and apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge; report unusual findings
  • Perform/record pre/post dialysis evaluation, weight, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate/enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled
  • Record accurate/timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Document patient treatment information completely
  • Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
