Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and regulations (corporation, state, federal)
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of patient education topics: Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), disease process/access
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs, weights, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law)
  • Ability to initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to enable safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Ability to document accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Commitment to Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, process improvement, and patient satisfaction

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external/internal customers
  • Develop/maintain effective relationships via timely communication; resolve customer service issues
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment; report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
  • Perform vascular access cannulation; report difficulties/unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated/allowed by state law
  • Initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD); monitor response and intradialytic problems; intervene as prescribed/directed
  • Obtain vital signs pre-reinfusion; discontinue treatment per procedures; evaluate patient pre-termination (BP standing/sitting)
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; evaluate patient pre-discharge; report unusual findings
  • Perform/record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate/enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, time, Na/UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled; record vital signs/treatment parameters accurately/timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Document treatment info completely (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes); report significant changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient; conduct machine safety checks
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures/disease process
  • Maintain safe/clean working environment
  • Participate in QEP/CQI activities for patient satisfaction and quality goals
