No dialysis experience required (extensive on-the-job training provided)
Ability to function under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Support for Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvement

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access for patency, cannulate access, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and vascular access evaluation
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., QB, QD), monitor patient response, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as prescribed
Discontinue dialysis treatment per procedures, obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and perform/record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits at 160)
Record accurate/timely vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes with initial identification
Report significant information/changes in patient condition to registered nurse or supervisor
Observe patient, conduct machine safety checks, document interventions for unusual status, and report changes/unusual findings
Monitor vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures), provide interventions, and document/report unusual findings
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Monitor patients performing self-care
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
