Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Trained in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training
Compliant with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
Capable of setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
Authorized to perform vascular access cannulation and Heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, report unusual findings
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight, report unusual findings
Perform vascular access cannulation, report difficulties/unusual findings
Administer Heparin as delegated/allowed by state law
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene as prescribed/directed
Monitor patient response to dialysis, report unusual findings
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, perform discontinuation functions, and document
Discontinue dialysis per procedures
Evaluate patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP)
Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
Record accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Document patient treatment information, complete Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Assist in maintaining safe/clean working environment
Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements for FMC Quality Enhancement Goals
