Requirements
Candidates should possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and have completed a formal training program as a Patient Care Technician, or equivalent experience. They must demonstrate proficiency in performing patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and assisting with dialysis treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Responsibilities
The Patient Care Technician will welcome patients, inquire about their wellbeing, evaluate vascular access, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated. They will initiate and monitor dialysis treatments, evaluate intradialytic problems, obtain vital signs, and discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures. Additionally, they will assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures, calculate and enter dialysis machine programming, ensure safety alarms are enabled, and accurately document patient treatment information on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
