Requirements

  • Registered patent agent in at least one of Canada and/or the United States
  • Significant experience preparing patent applications in the fields of AI and/or robotics (an asset)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Quick to understand new concepts in familiar and unfamiliar technology domains

Responsibilities

  • Keep up to date with all technical developments to identify strategic patenting opportunities (Invention Mining)
  • Triage inventions and draft new patent applications, always having at least one draft on the go (and 20 on deck), targeting ≥1 new draft per month across hardware, software, and applications (Patent Preparation)
  • Prepare invention disclosure materials for overflow drafting contractors and review/approve their work product
  • File patent applications and related documents
  • Pick up prosecution on the existing portfolio and prosecute own drafts through to issuance, including handling Missing Parts to PTAB appeals
  • File own responses during prosecution
  • Share diligent docket management, including data entry, document collection, and recordation
  • Support continued improvement in In-house IP Team function
  • Own coordination of team project deliverables
  • Innovate best practices for continuous improvements in intellectual property protection
