Requirements

  • High School Education or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude; 2 years of electrical experience preferred; prior pole climbing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in overhead electric systems by passing knowledge-based exam and physical prescreening
  • Pass EEI CAST test and successful completion of technical and behavioral interview
  • Work history demonstrating safe work habits
  • Massachusetts License to Operate Motor Vehicles
  • Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License or equivalent Military license strongly preferred
  • Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons, including standing 5-6 hours, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, climbing poles/ladders/structures, and frequent bending/stooping/squatting
  • Island residency required (Martha’s Vineyard)
  • No need for immigration sponsorship
  • Successful completion of Company administered Overhead Lineworker School

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, removal, inspection, and repair of overhead plant and apparatus at heights not exceeding 35 feet
  • Learn specifications, procedures, and requirements relating to work on overhead lines and various types of overhead circuits
  • Perform work assignments at the apprentice line worker level, including distribution transmission work
  • Work emergency and overtime as needed
  • Demonstrate safe working practices
  • Use hand/power tools and equipment pertinent to line construction and maintenance
  • Climb and work on poles, ladders, and other elevated structures
  • Gain knowledge of methods, materials, tools, electric theory, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in line construction and maintenance
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Read and interpret data, information, and documents
  • Analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations
  • Learn and apply new information or skills; work under deadlines with interruptions
  • Respond to emergencies
