Requirements

High School Education or equivalent
Mechanical aptitude; 2 years of electrical experience preferred; prior pole climbing experience preferred
Demonstrated ability in overhead electric systems by passing knowledge-based exam and physical prescreening
Pass EEI CAST test and successful completion of technical and behavioral interview
Work history demonstrating safe work habits
Massachusetts License to Operate Motor Vehicles
Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License or equivalent Military license strongly preferred
Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons, including standing 5-6 hours, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, climbing poles/ladders/structures, and frequent bending/stooping/squatting
Island residency required (Martha’s Vineyard)
No need for immigration sponsorship
Successful completion of Company administered Overhead Lineworker School

Responsibilities

Assist in the installation, removal, inspection, and repair of overhead plant and apparatus at heights not exceeding 35 feet
Learn specifications, procedures, and requirements relating to work on overhead lines and various types of overhead circuits
Perform work assignments at the apprentice line worker level, including distribution transmission work
Work emergency and overtime as needed
Demonstrate safe working practices
Use hand/power tools and equipment pertinent to line construction and maintenance
Climb and work on poles, ladders, and other elevated structures
Gain knowledge of methods, materials, tools, electric theory, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in line construction and maintenance
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Read and interpret data, information, and documents
Analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations
Learn and apply new information or skills; work under deadlines with interruptions
Respond to emergencies
