Requirements

  • Registered Polysomnographer Technologist - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) within 1-1/2 years or Respiratory Therapist - Licensing Board within 1-1/2 years
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Complete ASTEP program within the first year

Responsibilities

  • Follow procedural protocols (e.g., MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration) to collect appropriate data
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality, ensuring artifact-free signals and making adjustments
  • Document routine observations, sleep stages, clinical events, procedure changes, and significant events for scoring and interpretation
  • Implement interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs (e.g., CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen administration)
  • Score sleep/wake stages using professionally accepted guidelines
  • Score clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) per center-specific protocols
  • Evaluate sleep study-related equipment and inventory
  • Perform outreach sleep studies
  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including polysomnography, diagnostic/therapeutic services, patient care, and education
