Requirements
- Knowledge of evidence-based vision care guidelines and optometry scope of practice per state board
- Ability to perform comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity, visual function, eye health, keratometry, and refraction
- Skills in reviewing patient medical history, examining eyes using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents
- Capability to identify vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality) and prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids
- Experience in ordering, interpreting, and assessing diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, OCT)
- Ability to recommend and prescribe medications, treatment options (e.g., red eye, LASIK, cataract surgery), and provide additional treatments (e.g., foreign body removal)
- Proficiency in developing treatment plans, educating patients and associates on eye health, contact lens care, disease management, and safety
- Skills in recommending patient follow-up, providing referrals to ophthalmologists and other professionals, and coordinating care plans
- Competence in maintaining and updating patient information in systems (e.g., BOSS) accurately and confidentially
- Adherence to state, local, federal healthcare regulations, and Walmart vision center guidelines
- Ability to perform administrative and retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, patient registration, retail transactions)
- Leadership skills in analyzing business objectives, developing strategies, managing resources, evaluating processes, and promoting customer service
- Experience in workforce development, recruiting, talent management, mentorship, and succession planning
- Ability to foster integrity, ethics, and compliance, including supporting Open Door Policy
Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based vision care, recommend/prescribe medications and treatments (e.g., red eye, LASIK, cataract surgery)
- Deliver routine vision care and educate patients/store associates on eye health, contact lens care, disease management, and safety
- Recommend appropriate patient follow-up and consult with health professionals to prepare/coordinate care plans
- Provide referrals to ophthalmologists/other professionals and follow up on diagnostics/tests/patient information
- Evaluate patient health via comprehensive eye exams, review medical history, and use instruments/pharmaceuticals for diagnosis
- Prescribe, fit, adjust eyeglasses/contact lenses/vision aids; order/interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma, OCT)
- Develop treatment plans based on clinical presentation using evidence-based guidelines; perform treatments like foreign body removal
- Represent the company by delivering exceptional customer service in all patient interactions
- Maintain/update patient information in vision center systems (e.g., BOSS) timely, accurately, and confidentially
- Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) on best practices/procedures
- Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and Walmart guidelines; perform administrative/retail tasks (e.g., transactions, registration)
- Collaborate with internal (e.g., pharmacists, management) and external stakeholders for coordinated patient care
- Provide overall direction: analyze business objectives/customer needs, develop/implement strategies, manage costs/forecasts/resources
- Evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, identify improvements, promote customer environment, and sponsor learning
- Develop strategies to attract/maintain skilled workforce: diagnose gaps, recruit/select/develop talent, support mentorship/succession
- Cultivate environment of integrity/ethics, integrate values into practices, develop consequences for violations, support Open Door Policy
- Leverage internal/external partnerships/networks to achieve business goals
