Requirements

  • Juniors, seniors, or recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
  • Reporting and writing experience at school newspapers or elsewhere
  • Beginning journalists intending to pursue a career in journalism
  • Views broadly consistent with the WSJ Opinion section’s philosophy
  • Familiarity with and interest in the ideas of the WSJ editorial page
  • Direct experience writing, and ideally editing, in a journalism context
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet daily deadlines
  • Familiarity with technology as it relates to journalism
  • Social media experience with a publication or brand (preferred)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the section’s content (especially attractive)
  • Students from Journalism, Communications, Economics, Political Science, International Studies, History, Foreign Language, Statistics, Finance, Pre-Law, Science, Business, Marketing, Religious Studies, or Philosophy (preferred; others welcome with justification in cover letter)
  • U.S. citizen, green card holder, or holder of a visa that allows work
  • Submit complete application by Nov. 30, 2025, in one single PDF: cover letter, résumé, links or full text of three best clips, and response to one specified prompt (max 600 words)
  • Separate applications required for Opinion, Books, or Arts in Review positions

Responsibilities

  • Work in-person in New York City office for 10 weeks (June-August, flexible start dates)
  • Assigned to a department: Features (Op-Eds and Columns), Arts in Review, or Books
  • Assist in researching, writing, and editing content for print and digital editions
  • Contribute to social media and digital production tasks as needed
  • Pitch articles or projects to editors in other parts of the Opinion section
