Requirements

  • Beginning journalists—juniors, seniors or recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
  • Reporting and writing experience at school newspapers or elsewhere
  • Intend to pursue a career in journalism
  • Views broadly consistent with the Wall Street Journal Opinion section’s philosophy
  • Familiar with and interested in the ideas of the WSJ editorial page
  • Direct experience writing, and ideally editing, in a journalism context
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet daily deadlines
  • Familiar with technology as it relates to journalism
  • Social media experience with a publication or brand (preferred)
  • Familiarity with the section’s content (especially attractive)
  • Students from any discipline, but preferably concentrating in Journalism, Communications, Economics, Political Science, International Studies, History, a Foreign Language, Statistics, Finance, Pre-Law, Science, Business, Marketing, Religious Studies or Philosophy (others must explain relevance in cover letter)

Responsibilities

  • Work in-person in New York City office for 10 weeks (June, July, August; flexible start dates possible)
  • Assigned to a department: Features (Op-Eds and Columns), Arts in Review, or Books
  • Assist in researching, writing, and editing content for print and digital editions
  • Contribute to social media and digital production tasks as needed
  • Pitch articles or projects to editors in other parts of the Opinion section
