Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Medically cleared and physically able to work in all areas of the refinery
  • Successfully complete rigorous pre-employment process including drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and background check
  • Successfully complete operator qualification training
  • Participate in random drug and alcohol screenings
  • Previous experience as an operator or maintenance mechanic in a refinery, chemical process plant or power plant preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Run process units safely, in compliance, reliably, and efficiently during each shift, meeting operating targets from the daily operating plan
  • Complete unit equipment inspection rounds several times each shift to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation; perform specific equipment checks, take scheduled samples, and investigate/correct unusual conditions (e.g., noise, odors, leaks, hot or vibrating equipment)
  • Identify maintenance work, submit electronic work requests, help prioritize maintenance, perform minor maintenance as scheduled or needed, and maintain good housekeeping
  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate safe turnover of equipment for maintenance; prepare work packages and work permits; complete job walks with mechanical crews; review completed maintenance jobs for completeness and cleanliness before signing off
  • Adjust unit operations to meet operating targets and stable/efficient operations; coordinate with upstream/downstream units and keep shift supervision updated on variances, changes, upsets, or problems
  • Troubleshoot and handle upsets or off-target variances; request assistance from shift supervision when needed
  • Train on off shifts for compliance, qualification, emergency, and enhancement training; help develop and maintain operating procedures
  • Maintain thorough, concise, and complete unit logs of significant operation changes, priority status, and problems; review with relieving operator at shift change
  • Respond immediately to unit emergencies; ensure safety of personnel, isolate/mitigate high-risk areas, and activate unit emergency equipment
