Requirements

Functions as Registered Nurse Applicant under direction/supervision of Staff Registered Nurse
Obtain nursing license and registration within state-specific timeframe or 90 days from hire, whichever sooner
Adhere to FMS policies, procedures, training, FMCNA mission/vision/values, customer service philosophy, QEP, CQI activities, Compliance Program, and patient care/administrative policies

Responsibilities

Staff Related:
Direct Patient Care Technicians in safe/effective chronic hemodialysis therapy per facility manuals, corporate/state/federal regulations
Delegate tasks to direct patient care staff (LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, Dialysis Assistants)
Assess daily patient care needs and develop appropriate assignments
Monitor patient care staff for techniques and adherence to policy/procedures
Participate in staff training/orientation of new staff
Attend all required staff meetings
Patient Related - Education:
Ensure educational needs of patients/family met re: ESRD
Provide ongoing education on renal disease, vascular access, dialysis therapy, related conditions
Discuss/record education on diet/fluid/medication compliance
Provide detailed education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM)
Ensure transplant/modality awareness, drive catheter reduction
Educate on lab values relation to dialysis therapy, treatment compliance, meds, fluid
Patient Related - Dialysis Treatment:
Provide safe/effective ESRD care
Implement treatment prescriptions (Na modeling, Ultrafiltration modeling)
Assess patient response to therapy, adjust/modify plan per physician, communicate issues
Identify/communicate patient issues to Team Leader/physician
Initiate/conduct Initial/Annual Nursing Assessment, ongoing evaluation/documentation per FMC policies
Participate in pre-evaluation, initiation, monitoring, termination, access homeostasis, post-evaluation of hemodialysis per procedures
Intervene for patient adequacy changes/troubleshoot access flow (OLC/AMP)
Provide/supervise/monitor hemodialysis access care per procedures
Implement/administer/monitor/document interdialytic transfusions, notify of adverse reactions
