Position Overview

NPR Audience Technology is dedicated to delivering exceptional listening, reading, and viewing experiences across all platforms. As a Mobile Engineer, you will be an integral part of high-performing Scrum teams, focusing on iOS feature development within a collaborative environment. You will actively participate in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for existing and new NPR applications, from initial planning through development, release, and ongoing maintenance.

This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA DMU.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow iOS Engineers to develop new product features, working closely with designers, product managers, the Editorial team, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to system architecture, processes, and other business requirements.
  • Engage with stakeholders to clarify requirements and business needs during core business hours.
  • Deconstruct statements of work into manageable goals and tickets for sprint planning.
  • Communicate effectively, articulating robust solution designs and technical constraints to both internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain the existing codebase by optimizing performance, adding unit tests, and refactoring code as needed, employing a test-driven development mindset.
  • Participate in all phases of the SDLC, including planning, development, code reviews, release, maintenance, and after-hours support.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at system and/or process improvements, evaluating and recommending new technology solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of mobile development experience in a professional setting.
  • Proven experience leading or collaborating on iOS feature development from inception through production deployment.
  • Demonstrated experience in documenting architecture and system designs.
  • Proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI.
  • Possess creativity, initiative, and a strong desire for innovation and continuous learning.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze needs from both internal and external stakeholders and propose suitable technical solutions.
  • A commitment to crafting well-tested, well-documented, and elegantly structured code.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Empathy for users and a passion for creating excellent user experiences.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A genuine passion for NPR’s content and/or familiarity with our digital products.

Required Skills

  • Experience working within a professional development team in an Agile environment.
  • Experience managing a production iOS application using App Store Connect and other performance monitoring services.
