Requirements

Knowledge of supervising microbiology QA laboratories, including environmental monitoring (equipment swabs, air samples, retort cooling water, ingredient water, product samples), biochemical characterization, identification, raw material/in-process/finished product testing
Ability to ensure methods/procedures are followed and CAPA activities are completed
Capability to provide direction, technical expertise, and leadership in problem-solving for microbial issues
Experience in implementing/maintaining quality systems, managing budgets/staff, and providing microbial support for retort, powder, and aseptic lines
Skills in developing microbiological guidelines/specifications and interfacing with division personnel
Compliance knowledge in quality, regulatory, safety, and human resources areas
Coaching, mentoring, recruitment, selection, development, retention, performance reviews, growth plans, policy implementation, and task assignment expertise

Responsibilities

Supervise operation of Plant Microbiology QA Laboratories
Implement and maintain effectiveness of the quality system
Manage budgetary and staff requirements
Provide product and manufacturing microbial support for retort, powder, and aseptic lines
Interface with division personnel to develop microbiological guidelines and specifications
Assure compliance to procedures/policies in quality, regulatory, safety, and human resources
Coach, develop, mentor employees; handle recruitment, selection, development, retention, performance reviews, growth plans, policy support, and task assignments
Develop and administer a technically sound Environmental Monitoring program, updating as appropriate
Lead problem-solving efforts related to microbial issues
Direct plant-initiated microbiological certification
