Position Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program is designed to meet the needs of Scientific Experts by providing them with in-depth and cutting-edge information. This field-based group consists of medical professionals with deep content knowledge about specific disease areas, available products/investigational compounds (both Lilly and competitor), and current issues in their therapeutic areas. MSLs also gather feedback and insights from Scientific Experts to inform Lilly's research and strategic direction. By facilitating scientific exchange, MSLs aim to improve patient outcomes by addressing important clinical and scientific questions.

Responsibilities

The Medical Science Liaison Manager is responsible for the effective and compliant implementation of the Medical Science Liaison program within one or more assigned therapeutic areas. This role has direct supervisory responsibility for a team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Effective People Management & Development

  • Supervisory Responsibility: Manage direct reports, including performance management and individual development plans.
  • Coaching and Development: Develop and strengthen the skills of direct reports through frequent interactions, coaching in field settings, and regular one-on-one discussions.
  • Training Oversight: Oversee the development and implementation of required training for new and experienced personnel, covering scientific content, Scientific Expert interaction skills, and functional expertise. Collaborate with Clinical Research Physicians (CRPs), Global Medical Science Liaison Capabilities, and others.
  • Recruitment and Staffing: Recruit and staff field-based positions, taking full responsibility for personnel decisions.
  • Resource Management: Manage and optimize personnel resources.
  • Talent Development: Participate actively in cross-functional succession planning and talent development discussions.

Manage Field Operations - Maximize Operational Effectiveness

  • Resource Deployment: Deploy necessary tools, processes, and resources to enable successful field activities.
  • Geography Management: Oversee geography management and the effectiveness of Medical Science Liaisons in developing and maintaining relationships with Scientific Experts and other external customers.
  • Performance Measurement: Identify meaningful and appropriate metrics to measure performance.
  • Reporting: Create and review activity reports.

Requirements

  • Deep content knowledge about specific disease areas.
  • Understanding of available products/investigational compounds (both Lilly and competitor).
  • Knowledge of current issues in assigned therapeutic area(s).
  • Experience in managing and developing a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and partnerships with internal and external colleagues.
