Requirements

Candidates must possess a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification and a minimum of two years of experience in outpatient or professional services coding, with a preference for experience within behavioral health. A Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) certification is desirable, along with a strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and their documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

The Medical Coding Specialist will audit behavioral health documentation and coding (ICD-10-CM and CPT) for accuracy, compliance, and completeness, delivering actionable feedback to providers through remediation meetings and Coding Office Hours. They will serve as a subject matter expert, answering coding-related questions and supporting internal QA calibration processes, contributing to provider education efforts, and providing insights on coding trends and risk areas. Furthermore, the specialist will collaborate with cross-functional partners on initiatives like Clinical Annotation Tool (CAT) enhancements and billing code guardrails.
