Requirements

Candidates must possess a CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification. Experience coding various medical records including Inpatients, Observation, Outpatient Surgery, Invasive Outpatients, and Emergency Department is required. Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and encoder software is necessary. Familiarity with AHA, AHIMA, UHDDS guidelines, and DRG validation is essential. The role requires adherence to federal and state regulations for coding and abstracting.

Responsibilities

The HIM Coder will accurately code and abstract hospital medical records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and encoder software, ensuring compliance with AHA, AHIMA, UHDDS, and hospital-specific guidelines. Responsibilities include sequencing principal diagnoses and procedures, validating DRG assignments, and abstracting required data into the computer system. The coder will also collaborate with medical staff and CDI staff for documentation clarification, maintain performance in accordance with corporate compliance, and participate in performance improvement activities.
