High School or GED Equivalent
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) within 2 Years, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) within 2 Years, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 2 Years, or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) within 2 Years
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Commitment to Avera’s mission, vision, core values, and social principles
3-year commitment working as a Medical Assistant after completing schooling and certification

Responsibilities

Assists in care to patients as directed by provider based on competency
Provides accurate, completed, legible, and timely documentation of all patient procedures in the medical record
Maintains timely flow of patients
Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests; assists with patient and family education on procedures, medication use, nutrition, disease processes, and health/wellness maintenance, based on competency
Greets patients and conducts clinical interview collecting history and vital signs
Labels and processes lab specimens according to lab procedures
Maintains exam room for necessary supplies and materials; performs daily and weekly environmental cleaning, equipment quality control, and maintenance
Cleans and sterilizes medical equipment according to policy; follows procedures for handling and disposing of bio-hazardous infectious waste
Provides back-up help for front desk personnel, including answering telephone, scheduling and canceling appointments, and scheduling consult patients
Works collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice-related problems
Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development and ability to respond to specific patient/customer issues and data
