Dandy is seeking a Manager of Payroll & Benefits to serve as our in-house payroll subject-matter expert (SME). This role will be responsible for the strategy and execution of our U.S. payroll and benefits programs, playing a critical part in the People Operations team. The objective is to deliver compliant, accurate, and employee-friendly payroll and benefits experiences at scale.

Initially, you will manage all aspects of domestic payroll operations, including systems, compliance, and process optimization, alongside administering and strategizing U.S. employee benefits. As Dandy grows internationally, this role will encompass the ownership of international payroll and benefits, providing an opportunity to build scalable, compliant, and locally relevant programs in new markets.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who values ownership, precision, and continuous improvement, and is eager to embrace a global mandate within a high-growth team.

Responsibilities

  • U.S. Payroll Ownership: Own U.S. payroll strategy and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely processing while managing a direct report responsible for daily execution.
  • Payroll SME: Act as Dandy’s payroll SME, possessing full fluency in systems, processes, and regulations. Be prepared to step in directly when needed and guide decision-making across all levels.
  • Process Documentation: Develop and document standard operating procedures to enhance payroll accuracy, transparency, and business continuity.
  • Benefits Administration: Administer and evolve U.S. benefits programs, including health, retirement, and wellness. Manage vendor relationships, open enrollment, and long-term strategy.
  • International Expansion: Lead the development and launch of international payroll and benefits programs in new markets (e.g., Brazil, U.K., Canada), including vendor selection, systems setup, and compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Legal, Finance, and HR to ensure alignment, data accuracy, and compliance across payroll and benefits functions.
  • Issue Escalation: Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll and benefits issues, ensuring a seamless and high-quality employee experience.

Requirements

  • Payroll Experience: 6+ years of full-cycle U.S. payroll experience, including multi-state complexity, systems ownership, and compliance leadership.
  • SME Track Record: Proven experience as a payroll SME within an organization, advising leadership and resolving complex issues.
  • Payroll Systems: Experience with payroll platforms such as Paylocity, ADP, or UKG; strong systems fluency and problem-solving skills.
  • Benefits Experience: 2+ years of experience managing employee benefits programs, including vendor/broker management and open enrollment.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Knowledge of payroll and benefits compliance requirements (e.g., IRS, DOL, ERISA, ACA, COBRA).
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated success in building scalable payroll processes, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to quickly learn and own complex systems and regulations, with a strong eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to simplify and explain complex topics to diverse stakeholders.
  • Mindset: A process and solutions-oriented mindset, with a bias for ownership and execution.
  • Global Ambition: Eagerness to take on international scope and grow with the company as our footprint expands.
