Requirements

7+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with a focus on big data and distributed systems
3+ years experience as an engineering leader with a track record of translating ambiguous business requirements into scalable solutions and new product features
Expertise with batch data processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, EMR, etc
Expertise with big data technologies such as Argo, Apache iceberg, AWS glue, Spark, Metaflow, DBT, and Soda
Strong leadership skills with an ability to inspire, motivate, mentor, and retain top engineering talent
Proven ability to influence without authority (e.g., driving process improvements, spearheading architecture enhancements, etc.)
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP)
Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HIPAA, EDI) is highly desirable
Strong sense of ownership and proactive problem-solving mindset
A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success
Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment

Responsibilities

Provide technical oversight and drive new features with a focus on Garner’s strategic mission
Own and operate Garner’s core systems that generate provider rankings
Build a high-performance team by mentoring, providing feedback, and hiring
Continuously strive for quality while maintaining speed of delivery
Balance between greenfield features and scaling existing systems
Collaborate across disciplines by identifying bottlenecks and risks, proposing mitigation, and communicating tradeoffs
Protect our users’ privacy and security through best practices
