Requirements

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead/underground facilities under direct/immediate supervision
  • Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties under immediate/direct supervision
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
  • After D-100 or equivalent: Operate company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lifts), climb poles/ladders/structures, work on de-energized conductors/equipment; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260V under direct supervision
  • After D-200 or equivalent: Operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260V under immediate supervision of higher classification; operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, sectionalizing devices, refuse line/transformer devices under direct supervision (progressing to general supervision)
  • After D-300 or equivalent: Test de-energized overhead lines/equipment, install/remove personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
  • Assemble/install line material/hardware under direct/immediate supervision
  • Use/store hand lines, tie knots, basic knowledge of ropes/rigging equipment inspection/use
  • Splice primary/secondary overhead wires using proper tools/hardware (e.g., crimping/compression tools)
  • Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue as training completed
  • Inspect/maintain tools, equipment, work area safely; identify/inspect/use/maintain rubber gloves/sleeves (PIPE), insulating blankets/hoses/covers (IPE)
  • Inspect/maintain/organize/operate/stock company vehicles/equipment/tools; perform housekeeping
  • Report irregularities/abnormal conditions
  • Protect/control work area: set/remove barricades, flags, signs, cones
  • Maintain accurate records/reports; read/record kilowatt-hour meter readings; complete/submit Monthly Apprentice Cards
  • Perform similar/less skilled work as assigned
  • Drive/operate line trucks/auxiliary equipment

  • Operate sectionalizing devices under supervision
  • Test lines/install/remove protective grounds post-D-300
  • Maintain safety of tools/equipment/work area/vehicles
  • Perform rescues as trained
  • Control work area with traffic safety equipment
  • Complete paperwork/records/reports
  • Perform housekeeping and similar duties
