Requirements

Candidates should have over 3 years of professional experience in content development for a publisher or educational technology company. A strong knowledge of ELA standards and literacy instruction is required, along with excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Proficiency with content authoring tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems, and digital curriculum platforms is necessary. Familiarity with educational publishing standards and instructional technology is also required. Experience writing or editing educational video scripts or multimedia content is highly preferred, as is experience designing lessons and assessments for various grade levels (K-8 preferred). Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction strategies is preferred. Comfort with and enthusiasm for using AI in the content development process is also a requirement.

Responsibilities

The Learning Experience Designer will develop high-quality English Language Arts instructional content and activities, with a focus on developing and refining high-quality educational content for Newsela Original Video. This role involves writing, reviewing, and editing educational video scripts for ELA and STEM to ensure they are engaging, pedagogically sound, inclusive, and aligned to relevant standards. The designer will coordinate with freelance writers and editors, assign scripts, review drafts, and provide actionable feedback to maintain quality and consistency. They will ensure all scripts meet best practices in pedagogy, including differentiation, scaffolding, and UDL principles for diverse learners. Collaboration with educators, subject matter experts, multimedia producers, and animators to refine and enhance scripts is expected. The role requires applying a strong editorial lens to ensure clarity, accuracy, and tone consistency across both narrative and nonfiction scripts. The designer will revise and update scripts based on teacher feedback, student performance data, and evolving standards. They will utilize AI tools to support ideation, drafting, editing, and quality checks. Staying informed on research and best practices in literacy instruction, STEM education, assessment, and educational media to guide content development is also a key responsibility.
