The Front-End Engineer will join our cross-functional delivery teams supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs’ web and mobile modernization initiative. You’ll help rebuild and improve digital health tools used by millions of Veterans and caregivers — from secure messaging and medical records to prescription management — all within a unified, intuitive experience across web and mobile. This role focuses on front-end development for VA.gov’s health portal and the VA Health & Benefits (VAHB) mobile application, using modern frameworks and adhering to VA's accessibility and design standards. You will work across one or more areas to deliver intuitive, accessible, and performant user experiences for millions of Veterans and caregivers. You’ll help guide front-end technical strategy, mentor others, and contribute to scalable UI systems used across VA.gov and the VA Health and Benefits (VAHB) app. This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of up to one year, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. Requirements

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js)
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Legal authorization to work in the US (US work authorization required)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain front-end components for VA.gov’s health portal and the VA Health & Benefits (VAHB) mobile application.
  • Contribute to front-end technical strategy and architecture.
  • Mentor junior developers and share knowledge.
  • Ensure adherence to VA’s accessibility and design standards.
  • Deliver intuitive, accessible, and performant user experiences.
  • Work across one or more areas to support the modernization initiative.
