Infrastructure Engineer II

Position Overview

BigCommerce is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer II to join the Delivery Acceleration Team (DAT). This small, distributed team supports the entire Engineering organization by maintaining BigCommerce’s Cloud Development Environment, aiming to increase engineer productivity and reduce technical burdens.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve BigCommerce’s Cloud Development Environment.
  • Enhance engineer productivity by removing environmental impediments.
  • Maintain Ruby services that orchestrate infrastructure.
  • Contribute to a new Golang CLI tool for environment management.
  • Work with technologies including GCP, Nomad, Consul, Vault, Terraform, Packer, Puppet, and CircleCI.
  • Educate engineers on tool usage and process improvements.
  • Provide support for the development environment.
  • Document technical aspects and user flows of features.
  • Collaborate with a distributed global team.
  • Assist in defining the team’s roadmap.
  • Gather requirements closely with engineers.
  • Create and monitor statistics to observe tooling health and functionality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer.
  • A comprehensive software engineering boot camp, CS, CE, SW, MIS or equivalent degree, or relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of configuration management systems (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible; BigCommerce uses Puppet).
  • Experience with Linux systems administration, including scripting skills in Ruby and Bash.
  • Experience developing/scripting in Ruby or Golang.
  • Experience working with modern infrastructure tools and technologies.
  • Comfortable exploring and engaging with unfamiliar languages, tools, and technologies.
  • Eagerness to work on challenging problems.
  • Ability to contribute to project discovery, design, and implementation.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, open, and Agile team environment as a contributor and mentor.
  • Highly proactive and results-oriented with excellent critical thinking skills.

Compensation & Location

  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $125,000 - $142,000. The exact salary will depend on the candidate's location, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
  • Employment Type: Full-time
