Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
1-3 Years of relevant experience
Understanding of global financial markets
Strong programming skills and experience preferably in Python or a similar language such as VBA or R
Ability to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision
Experience working with fairly large data sets using Excel or SQL
Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner
Superior computer skills in Excel, Word and related applications
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines involving requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation
Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms
Ability to train new and current employees on best-practices for index management
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and/or groups
Experience with futures and/or options
Strong understanding of how indices are used, the impact of different methodologies, and the construction of non-equity indices
Ability to learn S&P’s proprietary index calculation engines
Knowledge of vendor terminals and vendors data and analytical platforms

Responsibilities

Oversee a wide array of indices
Prepare and deliver presentations to Index Committees, requiring understanding of index performance, methodologies, and prevailing market trends
Serve as a backup for other managers within the department, necessitating thorough knowledge of the entire product line
Become a subject matter expert and backup for the team leader
Prepare and calculate S&P and Dow Jones branded indices, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real-time and end-of-day index data to clients and end users
Perform analytical research to determine the composition of assigned indices, interpreting complex index methodologies and adjusting data in calculation systems to conform to index rules
Perform index rebalances by interpreting index methodology, running models and research for adds/drops, implementing changes, and communicating these to clients with focus on quality and accuracy
Serve on index committees and make presentations of original, non-routine analysis in support of responsible indices
Take responsibility for the management of high-profile indices, acting as an industry expert with in-depth knowledge of product lines
Manage and maintain key relationships with other groups within the department and across departments, particularly Product Management, Client Coverage, Index Services, and IT Support
Work in close coordination with the technology group and production support group to enhance system capabilities
