Responsibilities

  • Assists in patient care: rooms patients, obtains weight, vital signs, patient history
  • Completes forms, requisitions, and consents as required
  • Documents in EMR accurately, appropriately, and timely
  • Elicits medical information from patients (health history, medication changes, chief complaint, etc.)
  • Preps charts for patient appointments by retrieving labs, tests, imaging, and hospital notes
  • Requests records on all new patients
  • Performs basic filing, scanning, entry of lab results, and photocopying
  • Administers injections as ordered by provider
  • Calls or electronically sends prescriptions and refills as required
  • Stocks equipment and supplies in assigned rooms daily
  • Identifies and notifies provider of critical diagnostic data
  • Prepares and closes medical records accurately, appropriately, and timely
  • Answers patients' questions regarding procedures and medications within scope of practice
  • Handles all phone calls accurately, appropriately, consistently, and timely
  • Communicates information accurately, concise, timely, and professionally
  • Answers telephone pleasantly and addresses internal/external customer needs expeditiously
  • Provides coverage for other medical assistants as needed
  • Follows all processes and procedures uniformly
  • Assures confidentiality of information and protects patients' rights and privacy
  • Accepts responsibility for individual actions and judgments
  • Escalates issues to supervisor as necessary
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned
