Requirements

Candidates should possess proficiency in Python, particularly with Pandas, NumPy, and Requests, along with experience in web scraping, PDF parsing, and API integration. They should be comfortable with Google Sheets and workflow tools, demonstrating strong research and data verification skills, and familiarity with geospatial data formats such as shapefiles and GeoJSON. Knowledge of Git/GitHub for version control is beneficial, and a background in real estate or investigative journalism is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Freelance Data Reporter / Researcher will extract structured data from PDFs, develop and maintain scrapers for public websites and databases, standardize and clean large datasets, build visual data tools for editorial teams, research and resolve entities across datasets, support editorial staff by translating raw data into usable insights, automate repetitive data tasks with scripts and scheduled workflows, and manually reconcile records as needed with precision and care.
