Requirements

High School or GED Equivalent; one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred: Previous food service experience
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Ability to work PRN hours: minimum 36 hours per quarter (4 months), including day, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed (Monday-Friday 6:45am-7:00pm, occasional weekends and holidays)

Responsibilities

Demonstrate knowledge and application of the food service software system for recording patient and guest meal orders
Communicate frequently with staff/other departments regarding diet orders, situations, patient concerns, and requests; report feedback timely to patients
Demonstrate basic knowledge of food production, nutrition, and therapeutic diets
Deliver meals and/or food items to patient rooms in a timely and appropriate manner
Assist patients with meal set-up (e.g., opening containers, placing items within reach, obtaining missing/extra food items)
Pick up trays after meals and record meal and fluid intake in the electronic medical record
Complete documentation of stocked food items to track food cost
Complete assigned daily cleaning of individual work area and storage areas
Adhere to safety and sanitation standards (e.g., simple food preparation, food storage, transporting items, meal service)
Record food and equipment temperatures as needed by Health Department, Joint Commission, OSHA, or legal requirements
Provide excellent customer service utilizing Avera CARE standards when assisting patients with meal ordering, delivering meals/snacks, and acting as liaison for patient meal services
