Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with an advanced degree being preferred. They must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, specifically with experience in historic or complex structures, and a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering is highly desirable. Relevant certifications such as NICET or CFPS are also considered a plus, along with strong knowledge of fire protection principles, codes, and standards including NFPA, ICC, and OSHA.

Responsibilities

The Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and approving fire protection systems for new construction and renovation projects, ensuring they meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations. They will conduct fire safety inspections and assessments, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions for non-compliant systems. The role involves evaluating fire risks in historic structures and developing innovative solutions while preserving architectural integrity, utilizing fire modeling software and CAD tools. Furthermore, the engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide expert guidance, develop and deliver fire safety training, and promote fire safety awareness and compliance.
