Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in a wide variety of experiential media, including adventure-based and environmental activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts/crafts, music, outdoor activities, art media, psychodrama, horticulture, ropes and challenge course
  • Working knowledge of psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups and application of expressive activities within a psychiatric setting
  • Understanding of Rogers Improvement System (ROS) process and ability to apply it to department functions
  • Understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance guidelines relevant to Experiential Therapy
  • Completion of all required orientation competencies and training within the Experiential Therapy department and Rogers
  • Attendance at all mandatory in-services, relevant in-services, Experiential Therapy department and program staff meetings
  • Responsibility for all educational requirements and obligations pertaining to program/unit license regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Conduct self in a professional manner, promote positive team-oriented approach, display leadership and positive role-modeling, demonstrate courteous and respectful demeanor
  • Maintain supportive and collaborative environment with all disciplines, identify concerns and provide input for resolution
  • Comply with Rogers Memorial Hospital policies and procedures (Infection Control, Safety and Employee Health, Human Resources, Experiential Therapy)
  • Participate in training new employees as directed by the leader
  • Participate in Rogers Improvement System (OS), identify ROS concerns, involve self in learning and application of relevant standards
  • Attend informational meetings to increase awareness of regulations
  • Conduct experiential therapy as scheduled, evaluate, plan and coordinate programming to meet patients’/residents’ needs
  • Maintain Experiential Therapy environments for safety and supplies, be flexible with work assignments including schedule changes and program additions
  • Complete treatment plan and evaluation according to Rogers policy, complete therapeutic documentation according to Rogers policy
  • Demonstrate knowledge of intervention strategies, utilize redirection, monitor patient/resident behavior, safely intervene using de-escalation techniques and least-restrictive measures
  • Establish therapeutic rapport with patient/resident groups while maintaining professional relationships
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychosocial functioning, common diagnostic categories, their relationship to behavior, treatment procedures/models (behavioral, recovery, etc.) and their application
