Requirements

Background in one of the following specialties: Recreational Therapy, Fitness Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, or Outdoor Activity Specialist
Knowledge and experience in a variety of experiential therapies, including: adventure-based and environmental activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts/crafts, music, outdoor activities, art media, psychodrama, horticulture, ropes and challenge course
Working knowledge of psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups
Ability to apply expressive activities within a psychiatric setting
Awareness of CBT and DBT skills
Documentation skills

Responsibilities

Develops, plans, implements, facilitates, directs, and evaluates experiential therapy programming
Utilizes recreational activities to aid patients/residents in learning to apply and utilize recovery skills
Provides individualized treatment within a group setting
Conducts experiential therapy as scheduled
Evaluates, plans, and coordinates programming to meet patients’/residents’ needs
Maintains Experiential Therapy environments for safety and supplies
Be flexible with work assignments, including schedule changes and program additions
Completes a treatment plan and evaluation according to Rogers policy
Completes therapeutic documentation according to Rogers policy
Demonstrates knowledge of intervention strategies and utilizes redirection when necessary to maintain patients’/residents’ safety
Monitors patient/resident behavior and safely intervenes appropriately, using de-escalation techniques and least-restrictive measures possible
Establishes a therapeutic rapport with patient/resident groups, while maintaining appropriate, professional relationships
