Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in Electrical Engineering or related occupation
  • Employment experience with tools for electromagnetic simulation, including MATLAB, Motor-CAD, OptiSLang, Maxwell, 2D extractor FEA Tool, and IcePak
  • Employment experience with set up of tools for electromagnetic simulation for the design and controls of components such as motors, transformers, and onto power electronics

Responsibilities

  • Create, correlate, and maintain detailed motor and generator designs at the component and system levels
  • Correlate designs/models with physical test activity
  • Understand trade-offs within inherent technologies of motor design through simulation capability and derive confidence in simulation tool
  • Lead activity across simulations for different technologies including switch reluctance, induction, and internal permanent magnet
  • Take a leadership role in teaching lower-level engineers on the toolsets and models for development of a global team
  • Create standard work of model simulation and design to allow consistency and repeatability across design activities
  • Support power electronics designers in optimizing component and systems
  • Work on semiconductor selection, bus bar design, capacitor selection, PCB design, sensors and magnetics
  • Handle multi goal optimization such as cost, robustness, weight, space claim & control stability
  • Predict system/component losses, temperatures and life given various load profiles
  • Support NPI, NTI, CPI, and cost reduction programs to meet quality and performance targets
  • Drive knowledge management including developing standard work and automating processes
  • Help to develop and refine global VPD strategy for electric drive components
  • Work in the labs with lab teams to understand and drive alignment of simulation to test data
