Position Overview

Mozilla Corporation is seeking two Engineering Managers to lead teams focused on critical web technologies. One position will manage the DOM team, responsible for Gecko's implementation of web standards like Storage, File System, Web Workers, Push API, and Notifications API. The other position will manage the SpiderMonkey Javascript team, responsible for Mozilla's Javascript engine and Javascript standards (TC39). Both teams are geographically distributed, with some members in the Mozilla Berlin office, and operate virtually and in the open.

About the Teams and Roles

We are looking for passionate individuals excited about web technologies and supporting engineers in their growth.

  • Engineering Manager, DOM Team: Lead the team responsible for the Gecko implementation of web standards including Storage, File System, Web Workers, Push API, and Notifications API.
  • Engineering Manager, SpiderMonkey Javascript Team: Lead the team responsible for Mozilla's Javascript engine and Javascript standards (TC39).

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers working on storage, background, and system-level Web APIs and standards, or the SpiderMonkey Javascript engine and related standards.
  • Mentor and guide a diverse team of engineers, fostering collaboration, career growth, and addressing their needs.
  • Own the team roadmap, collaborating with peer managers, product management, and technical leads to manage risks, balance resources, and clear blockers.
  • Assign work based on individual abilities, while working with the team to deliver major initiatives on clear timelines.
  • Ensure the team delivers well-planned, high-quality, and maintainable software.
  • Collaborate openly with the open-source community.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on people management experience.
  • Proven functional management skills with experience leading diverse engineering teams, including mentoring members with different skill sets.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to lead teams in delivering and maintaining complex software projects.
  • Software engineering background to drive technical decisions, engage with engineers of all seniority levels, and empower tech leads as primary designers and decision-makers.
  • Proficiency in software development lifecycle practices for triage, prioritization, and execution.
  • Passion for problem-solving, risk management, leading change, and facilitating collaborative decision-making.
