Requirements
A degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience in Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), system reliability & grid operations, planning and modeling (preferred)
Responsibilities
Perform intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner
Possess intermediate level knowledge and perform varied assignments with proficiency in applying theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis
Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques for assignments of moderate complexity (e.g., dividing problems into component steps)
Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment and recommend enhancements to business processes
Coordinate work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity to complete routine activities
Perform routine engineering activities with minimum direction from higher-level employees and follow company policies, practices, standards, rules, and external regulations
Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
Coordinate development of input for forecasting costs on routine projects, improvements, and requisitions
Use scheduling techniques (e.g., CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning activities and initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
Resolve and initiate solutions to routine problems, often requiring additional definition/clarification
Identify problems beyond normal routine and seek out opportunities to embrace new ideas and approaches
Develop, review, or present technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses in a clear, concise, and effective manner
Act as an active team member, network with peers inside and outside the AEP system, identify key stakeholders, use informal networks, resolve conflict, and build consensus
Make decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures that affect team work, while being aware of risks and extrapolating beyond known facts
Understand AEP's organizational structure, the role of their unit, budgeting and approval processes, economic analysis techniques, utility regulation, and financing
