Requirements

  • For Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Counselor II: Bachelor's degree and 10 years hospital assessment experience, or Master's degree must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • For Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Counselor III: Master's in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • For Counselor III: One of the following active licenses in the state of practice upon hire - Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor - Mental Health (LPC-MH), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Clinical Social Worker - Practitioner in Private Practice (CSW-PIP), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • 2 years related experience
  • Ability to work rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends/holidays (PRN)

Responsibilities

  • Answer all inquiry calls in a timely fashion, offer and schedule assessments, complete the database, and keep all information up to date
  • Provide excellent customer service as the point of contact for all Behavioral Health Center (BHC) services
  • Complete psychosocial assessments including suicide/homicide risk assessment, determine appropriate level of care, and make appropriate referrals
  • Manage the Behavioral Health Center emergency room by visiting with walk-in patients, providing medical screens, and meeting EMTALA guidelines
  • Assist emergency room physicians, including E-assessments through the E-emergency program
  • Work with law enforcement to petition or place Board of Mental Illness holds when needed, and with security regarding transports and Crisis Prevention Intervention
  • Provide crisis intervention and case management for local mental health clinics, medical clinics, and psychiatry clinics; provide EAP assessment and counseling including phone intervention
  • Manage psychiatric inpatient beds through a system-wide tracking board, manage physician rotation assignments, and on-call schedules
  • Maintain current knowledge of admitting modules and register Clinical ARC patients and pre-admitted patients in a timely fashion
  • Provide ongoing training/orientation for students including psychiatric residents, nurses, and counseling interns
  • Provide evaluation and treatment for individuals of all ages in acute mental health crisis via telephonic, face-to-face, or interactive video communication
  • Perform rapid assessments, make swift treatment decisions, and multitask in an intense, stressful environment
  • Apply specialized clinical knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and crisis intervention for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, addictions, severe mental illness, emotional disturbances, and intoxicated/withdrawing individuals
  • Facilitate referral or placement to appropriate level of care or resources
