Requirements

  • Proficiency in software: PSS/E, TARA, AASPEN, OSI (SCADA/EMS), iTOA (Outage Management System)
  • Ability to perform intermediate level engineering work requiring application of engineering knowledge
  • Education, experience, and relevant skills commensurate with Electrical Engineer to Sr level (final grade based on candidate qualifications)
  • Leadership & Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others, performs routine engineering with minimum direction, follows company policies/standards/regulations, provides training/guidance to lower-level employees
  • Planning & Organization Ability: Coordinates development of input for forecasting costs, uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts), initiates corrective action for project objectives
  • Problem Solving & Initiative: Resolves routine problems requiring definition/clarification, identifies beyond-routine problems, seeks opportunities and embraces new ideas
  • Communication: Develops/reviews/presents technical reports, studies, analyses clearly and concisely
  • Interpersonal Skills: Active team member, networks with peers inside/outside AEP, identifies stakeholders, uses informal networks, resolves conflict, builds consensus
  • Decision Making: Makes decisions subject to review within policies/procedures, affects team work, aware of risks, extrapolates beyond known facts
  • Business Awareness: Understands AEP's organizational structure, role/responsibility of unit, budgeting/approval process, proficient in economic analysis application

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily tasks such as outage approvals, next day studies, weekly analysis
  • Be engaged in RTO activities to increase awareness of industry changes/impacts
  • Ensure coverage over critical outage periods and balance work schedules for on-call schedule
  • Lead team in Restoration Developments, Emergency Operating Plans, and operating guides
  • Oversee outage planning discussions and operational settings
  • Be engaged in Transmission Planning projects and outage planning processes
  • Conduct system performance appraisal and ad hoc studies for awareness of changing Transmission system
  • Balance work schedules to ensure coverage over critical outage periods
  • Coordinate work activities of others within work group/department/corporate entity for routine activities
  • Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
  • Coordinate development of input for forecasting costs on routine projects/improvements
  • Use scheduling techniques for budget and planning activities
  • Initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
  • Develop, review, or present technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses
