Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field—or equivalent experience in HV operations; advanced certifications in HV or power systems are a plus
  • 5+ years of experience with high-voltage substations, transmission interconnections, or HV systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects; experience with utility-scale BESS is preferred
  • Strong expertise in troubleshooting HV equipment, analyzing relay event records, and leading root cause analysis
  • Proven experience managing HV maintenance, inspections, and switching operations with utilities and O&M providers
  • Solid understanding of NERC, IEEE, and utility operational requirements, with ability to apply them in the field
  • Proficiency with SCADA/EMS systems, electrical schematics, and maintenance management tools
  • Located within 60 miles of SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Calgary, AB; or Toronto, ON
  • Willingness to travel 50% to project sites in California and Texas

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert for substations, interconnections, and protection systems, ensuring safe and compliant operations
  • Establish and maintain HV operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and preventive maintenance programs
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams on upgrades, design reviews, and long-term reliability planning
  • Lead root cause analysis of faults and outages, driving corrective and preventive solutions
  • Provide direct technical support during outages and maintenance events to minimize downtime
  • Oversee switching operations, inspections, testing, and warranty remediation in coordination with O&M partners
  • Provide technical oversight during construction—conduct field inspections and witness tests to ensure engineering standards are met
  • Report on system performance, events, and resolutions to executives, regulators, and key stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment with NERC, IEEE, and utility requirements across fleet operations
