Responsibilities
Direct and supervise the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, Subcontractor Payables, Payroll, Housing Receivables, job cost, and general ledger accounting to ensure adherence with generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, and company policies and procedures
Assist the Controller in preparing the annual Departmental Operating Budgets, Housing Budget, Capital Asset Budget, Land Development Budget, and Cash Flow Budget
Assist the Controller in preparing financial forecasts of projected revenue and profit in conjunction with financial analysis of budget vs. actual operating results
Assist the Controller in meeting all monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements of internal and external users
Assist the Controller in directing and overseeing the preparation of Personal Property, Sales and Use, and Real Estate Tax returns
Assist the Controller in designing, implementing, and supporting procedures that assure compliance with corporate policies
Work with and provide financial information to internal and external auditors and respond to audit reports, as required
Approve expenditures and invoices within established company guidelines
Work with department managers to ensure consistent application of general ledger accounting and cost coding
Ensure appropriate staffing to meet department needs
Utilize recruiting and selection tools/processes to build organizational talent
Delegate work according to employee’s abilities and skills
Evaluate employee’s performance and plan for compensation actions in accordance with that performance
Provide developmental opportunities through identification of internal and external training opportunities
Create opportunities for employee growth
Provide continuous coaching with regard to functional and leadership standards (technical skills and behaviors)
