Director, Relationship Management – Alternative Direct Distribution

Employment Type: Full-time

Location Type: Remote/Work-from-home (residing near a major airport) or Office-based

Travel: Required, 1-2 weeks per month, 3 days each of those weeks.

Position Overview

Nationwide's Property and Casualty team is seeking a passionate leader to drive innovation and simplify processes within our digitally enabled and distributed personal lines products. This role focuses on partnering with Personal Lines (PL) intermediaries to enhance agent and customer experiences through embedded, digital, call center, and franchise operating models. As the Director, Relationship Management – Alternative Direct Distribution, you will build strong relationships with C-suite executives and key influencers within partner firms, developing and implementing strategies to drive revenue, profit, and market share growth. You will also own the prospect pipelining process, crucial for forecasting business development and sales expansion.

  • Prior Leadership Experience: A plus, but not required.
  • Insurance Designations: ARM, CPCU, or CIC are preferred.
  • Alternative Distribution & Insurtech Familiarity: Highly preferred, specifically with Telematics, APIs, and Digital Customer Experience.
  • Work Authorization: This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the marketing and technology strategies of assigned firms within the portfolio.
  • Lead annual strategic planning sessions with partner firms and Alternative Direct Distribution leadership.
  • Cultivate, foster, and manage executive-level relationships with assigned firms.
  • Drive overall top and bottom-line performance with assigned firms, managing the total cost of distribution.
  • Lead all aspects of prospect pipelining, including rubric scoring, financial proforma development, and go-to-market approach, with support from the Business Development team.
  • Conduct pipeline meetings with Alternative Direct Distribution leadership to discuss prospective opportunities.
  • Gather agent feedback for continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Product partners, finance, marketing, and operations on problem-solving, education, sales practices, and agent behavior feedback.
  • Communicate market insights and observations to leadership regarding profitable growth opportunities.
  • Consult with Product partners on strategic and tactical planning, objective monitoring, and firm behavior management.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
