Requirements

The Director of Actions should possess 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years of leadership experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or a related field. They require a track record of shipping production-quality planning and controls software for autonomous systems, along with expertise in trajectory planning, behavioral decision making, and motion control algorithms. Furthermore, they must have a deep understanding of real-time systems, vehicle dynamics, and robotic control theory, and proficiency in C++, Linux-based development, and scalable infrastructure. A Master’s or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is also required.

Responsibilities

As the Director of Actions, you will lead a global software organization responsible for AV motion planning, trajectory generation, and actuation logic, defining and executing the technical roadmap aligned with Motional’s milestones. You will balance research with productization, integrate Planning and Controls with Behaviors, develop KPIs and performance metrics, cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, mentor and grow a high-performing team, and provide strategic input on architectural decisions. Additionally, you will collaborate with senior leadership and contribute to solving challenging problems, translating innovation into deployable codebases, and working with research teams.
