Candidates must possess an undergraduate and law degree, with at least 7 years of combined experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably as an employment lawyer in a multinational, U.S.-based company. Proven expertise in U.S. employment law and litigation is required, along with strong communication and collaboration skills to build partnerships with stakeholders. The ability to organize, prioritize, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment is essential, as is the skill to translate legal requirements into understandable, risk-based recommendations. Experience advising on sales compensation plans is a plus, as is experience or interest in EMEA employment law.
The Director, Employment Counsel will advise on employment matters across the United States and Canada, including hiring, promotions, leaves, performance management, disciplinary actions, reductions in force, terminations, and post-termination disputes. They will provide counsel to HR and business leaders on various issues such as restrictive covenants, severance agreements, discrimination, harassment, compliance, restructuring, franchising, M&A due diligence, pay equity, wage and hour, and worker classifications. This role involves overseeing and partnering with outside counsel on employment litigation, drafting and reviewing HR policies and handbooks, developing and delivering HR training programs, and drafting compensation plans. Additionally, the position requires overseeing and conducting internal employment investigations and monitoring and drafting submissions to regulatory agencies for employment-related reporting obligations.
