Position Overview

About the Role

As the Design Director at Headway, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the provider experience. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and senior leadership to empower mental health providers in growing and managing their practices through Headway's platform. Your responsibilities will include defining the vision and strategy for the provider experience, owning the execution of product design with a high standard of craft, and inspiring senior designers. Your focus will span the entire provider journey, from initial acquisition through ongoing engagement and retention.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive Provider Experience Strategy and Vision: Partner with product managers, engineers, and senior leadership to define and execute a comprehensive provider experience strategy across the entire lifecycle, from acquisition to retention.
  • Ensure High-Craft Design Execution: Own the end-to-end design execution for provider products, maintaining exceptional attention to detail and a high standard of craft that motivates senior designers.
  • Grow and Manage a High-Performing Design Team: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of talented designers to deliver outstanding results.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading design teams for complex B2B SaaS platforms with a focus on consumer-grade user experience.
  • Experience within hyper-growth startups (Series C+) and larger companies with mature design practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with product managers, engineers, and leadership to drive experience vision and influence organizational direction through design thinking.
  • Proven experience building scalable design systems for complex products.
  • Experience leading and mentoring senior design talent across multiple product areas.
  • A portfolio showcasing both high-craft individual design work and systematic approaches to design at scale.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $255,000 - $300,000 (based on qualifications, experience, and geographic location)
  • Variable Compensation: Potential for performance-based variable compensation.
  • Equity: Eligibility for an equity grant.
