Requirements

  • Experience with design, fabrication and testing new products or technologies
  • Working knowledge of a variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, coatings) and manufacturing processes (drilling, lathe, mill, welder, bonding, abrasion, etc.)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (mechanical design, electrical design, software, quality, supply chain, certification, manufacturing)
  • Adept at interpreting and understanding engineering documentation (drawings, specifications) and quality documentation/requirements
  • Experience with CAD design (3DX and Delmia preferred)
  • Great organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Work with aircraft design teams to ensure new designs are easy to manufacture, developing trade studies and fabrication plans
  • Work with supply chain and fabrication teams to develop make vs buy strategy, promoting cross-team communication
  • Collect, review, and report on production data to develop ideas for technological advancements
  • Develop reports outlining plan, cost, estimated benefit, and ROI for new technology to gain buy-in from teams
  • Maintain a list of design and manufacturing improvements with an implementation roadmap
  • Work with tool design, production, and facilities teams to plan introduction of new products/technology
  • Design tools and floor plan layouts as required
  • Work with internal/external fabricators to manufacture parts
  • Become an expert on manufacturing processes for aircraft fabrication and assembly to develop improvement ideas
  • Understand aircraft material systems requirements and associated tooling
  • Create assembly/part level drawings, technical data packages, and BOMs as required
  • Follow aircraft Design, Review, and Change processes
  • Document first article builds, highlighting learnings and improvements
  • Work with production to develop handoff plan for seamless introduction
  • Review production data post-introduction and report on benefits
  • Mentor team members and coordinate agile team goals/timelines
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews
  • Develop scalable manufacturing processes in parallel with product design
