Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in editing capacity
  • Experience working in a fast-paced digital newsroom
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism
  • Excellent SEO and visual storytelling skills

  • Ability to produce, edit, and publish breaking news stories
  • Experience with technology and tools for fast and efficient workflow

  • Ability to work rotating shifts across four possible shifts (Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm, 9pm-6pm, 11am-8pm, and 1pm-10pm)

Responsibilities

  • Work effectively with other editors and reporters to ensure fast, smart, accurate, and fair coverage of breaking news
  • Produce, edit, and publish breaking news stories
  • Use technology and tools to get faster, better, and more prolific
  • Set up a system of monitoring, planning, and pre-writing to anticipate rather than react to news
  • Manage assigning, editing, and publishing within the team with quality controls
  • Develop and maintain a live blog operation
  • Create highly engaging content on the most interesting and important stories
  • Assign and manage stories to ensure timely publication
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve the quality of news coverage
  • Collaborate with senior editors to develop and implement new ideas and strategies
  • Participate in Google Top Stories carousel displacement efforts
  • Displace competing stories from the Google Top Stories carousel when necessary
