Requirements

5+ years of experience
Strong understanding of database performance and current workloads
Good knowledge of connection management and system resource usage on database servers
Familiarity with related tooling, including monitoring solutions
Capability to tune and configure PostgreSQL (ideally within AWS)
Ability to predict required capacity and assist DevOps in provisioning it
Experience working with the latest versions of PostgreSQL as the main persistence store for Ruby on Rails applications
Skills to scale, optimize, and shard database infrastructure

Responsibilities

Establish database management systems, standards, guidelines, and quality assurance for database deliverables (e.g., conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, security policy)
Document and communicate database design
Evaluate and install database management systems
Code complex programs and derive logical processes on technical platforms
Participate in quality assurance and develop test application code in client-server environments
Provide expertise in devising, negotiating, and defending tables and fields in the database
Adapt business requirements into data, database specifications, table, and element attributes for applications
Develop understanding of client's original data and storage mechanisms (at more experienced levels)
Determine appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization
Determine how tables relate to each other and how fields interact within tables for a relational model
Build for the future, revamp persistence architecture where required, and ensure database systems operate flawlessly 24/7
