Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in a quantitative role, ideally in infrastructure, systems, or platform domains at a high-growth company or research organization. A strong foundation in SQL and Python is required, along with excellent communication skills and a strategic mindset. Experience defining and operationalizing metrics from the ground up is also expected. Proven track record of operating as a data partner in large-scale backend systems and experience in NLP, large language models, or generative AI are considered especially beneficial.
The Data Scientist will build and maintain foundational datasets and metrics reflecting infrastructure usage, efficiency, and scaling. They will develop forecasting and optimization models to support infrastructure planning and resource allocation. This role involves partnering with engineering, research, and product teams to shape infrastructure strategy through data and driving clarity with source-of-truth dashboards and analyses to guide infrastructure decisions across OpenAI.
